Latest headlines: Michael Katz on successful digital signage for trade shows, Mark Coxon on rethinking spaces, plus news from VuWall & more

All the best digital signage makes you FEEL something. Kind of like how all the best pieces of art evoke different feelings. From ad spaces to wayfinding, the signs I come across in daily life seem endless, but I only remember the ones that made me react to something. Michael Katz writes about this phenomenon somewhat. I don’t know if he was expecting to be blown away by the signage at the New York International Auto Show, but, as this column will show you, the exhibits were quite astounding.

I can’t wait to be back at ISE, so maybe I’ll get to see some fantastic signage there! Are you attending this year in person? If so, let me know if you see me on the show floor, and also, please give me Barcelona restaurant recommendations. I’m in charge of booking the team dinner, and I’m scared I’ll pick something terrible. Thank you!

Talk soon!

COLUMNS

+ A Successful Digital Signage Experience for Trade Shows [Michael Katz]

I just attended the most recent Auto Show (April 15-24) at the Javits Center, and the show and facility (recently increased 30% in size) have changed drastically, even from a few years ago. I mentioned in previous columns the criticality of providing an impactful environment for end users (professional or consumer). This trade show is no exception to that rule.

+ Rethinking Space [Mark Coxon]

If there’s one topic that has been totally exhausted and “overthunk” in the last year, it’s the post-COVID return to work. I don’t say that because it’s unimportant; I say that because most of the pieces we see written try to draw some new one-size-fits-all conclusion to what the… gulp… “new normal” will, or should, be. The problem with that is we have moved into the experience age, and experiences are very dependent on the people experiencing them — and those people aren’t the same at every organization.
