Waves Audio has released the L4 Ultramaximizer, the latest addition to its line of limiter plugins. Designed to meet the loudness requirements of modern streaming platforms while maintaining dynamics, the L4 introduces adaptive processing tools aimed at music producers, mixing engineers, and live sound professionals.
The new plugin follows in the footsteps of Waves’ L1 and L2 limiters, which became industry standards in the 1990s and 2000s. Unlike its predecessors, the L4 emphasizes both loudness and musical detail, offering features that enhance transient impact and low-level dynamics.
Key features include:
- Five limiting algorithms (Modern, Aggressive, Smooth, Safe, and L2).
- Adaptive clipper and release settings that adjust automatically to program material.
- Upward compression for enhancing low-level content.
- Ultra-low latency for use in tracking, mixing, mastering, and live sound.
- LUFS metering for streaming-ready level monitoring.
The L4 Ultramaximizer is available now through the Waves Ultimate subscription, which includes more than 240 plugins, as well as via perpetual license. It is also included in Waves’ Mercury, Live Plus, Pro Show, and SD7 Pro Show bundles.
