Pathway Church, located in Wichita, Kansas, recently installed a mix of S- and X-series i-PRO cameras at its 25,000-square-foot Goddard campus and its 195,000-square-foot Westlink campus.

The church applied for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which provides up to $200,000 per location to support high-risk nonprofits, such as faith-based organizations. This came on the heels of the COVID-19 pandemic that caused budget constraints and staffing shortages, making reliable monitoring across the multiple campuses difficult.

“We didn’t have the manpower to cover every corner of our buildings,” said Dan Doerflinger, facilities director at Pathway Church. “We needed a camera system that could help us extend our reach, so one person can monitor spaces that would otherwise take multiple staff to oversee.”

After being awarded the grant, the church installed the S- and X-series cameras at the two campuses, which included multi-sensor units for extended coverage, fisheye and dome cameras for interior spaces and bullet cameras for parking lots. The cameras are managed through i-PRO’s VideoInsight Video Management System, fitting the church’s budget restrictions due to its no-license-fee model.

“The lack of recurring licenses made a huge difference for us as a nonprofit,” said Doerflinger. “It meant we could budget gradually and know the system would be scalable long-term.”

i-PRO’s AI-driven features allowed VideoInsight to provide a unified view of operations. Object detection reduced false alarms, analytics like people counting gave the church a clear view of service attendance without compromising privacy and clothing color search made it easy to locate specific individuals in busy buildings, with all helping reduct time reviewing footage.

Impacts of the system include monitoring stations provided correct alerts, minimizing late-night trips back to the campuses and easier resolution of insurance claims due to video footage.

“Our congregation values knowing we’re proactive about safety,” said Doerflinger. “The cameras help us protect our members, support our staff, and steward our resources wisely.”
