Research Indicates AV-over-IP Has Reached Critical Inflection Point

Audinate, in collaboration with Futuresource Consulting, published the results of a global study that reveals AV-over-IP has reached a critical inflection point.
This research indicates that AV-over-IP adoption has now entered a new sophisticated phase of development and deployment due to its strong current usage, near-universal adoption projected over the next few years and growing emphasis on secure, interoperable and cloud-enabled platforms.
The study surveyed 370 end users and 100 integrators across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. It spanned verticals inducing corporate, media, healthcare, education and government. Results show that A-IP is firmly established, with 67% of respondents currently using IP networks to deliver audio, with a further 18% planning deployments in the next few years.
Video-over-IP adoptions has similar numbers, with 59^ already transmitting video over IP and another 26% planning near-term adoption.
“The AV market has spoken,” said Joshua Rush, chief marketing officer at Audinate. “It has been said that broad interoperability is non-negotiable and that end-users and integrators require solutions that are dynamic, flexible and secure. AVoIP has clearly become a critical infrastructure that acts as the foundation layer for a wide cross section of use cases and applications, and as such needs the features and flexibility to solve not just the challenges of today, but where the industry is going.”
Participants of the survey now identify operational scalability and future-proofing as the top drivers for adoption, followed by security and ability to support remote and hybrid workflows, in addition to connectivity, the traditional baseline deliverable of AV-over-IP.
“The conversation around AVoIP has fundamentally changed. End users aren’t asking ‘should we do this?’ anymore, they’re asking ‘which platform grows with us?’ said Joyce Wang, lead analyst, professional broadcast at Futuresource Consulting. “Scalability, IT integration and cloud-based management have gone from nice to haves to hard requirements, and vendors who haven’t caught up are feeling it.”
