California State University, Fullerton, is deploying ViewSonic Direct View LED displays across learning, research and shared-use spaces to support collaboration, visual storytelling and more equitable access to professional-grade technology.

The university faced a challenge shared by many higher education institutions: giving students and faculty better ways to work with complex information while supporting multiple disciplines, teaching styles and technology needs.

CSUF wanted more than larger displays. Its goal was to build adaptable infrastructure that could support hands-on exploration, collaborative research and access to advanced visualization tools across campus.

After evaluating multiple technology providers, CSUF selected ViewSonic as a strategic display partner. ViewSonic Direct View LED solutions were installed in several high-impact environments, including the university’s Data Visualization Center, flexible meeting and learning spaces, and shared-use areas available to students from different academic programs.

In the Data Visualization Center, the displays are used for faculty and student research presentations, interdisciplinary collaboration and visual storytelling. Other installations support both traditional instruction and discussion-based learning, while shared-use spaces allow students to work with professional-grade display technology without requiring their own specialized equipment.

The deployment also supports CSUF’s broader Fullerton Forward 2024–2029 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes student access and academic success, engagement, campus capacity and improved operations.

Ease of use was important for the university. CSUF’s Academic Technology Services team focused on implementing technology that would feel familiar to faculty.

ViewSonic’s role extends beyond the displays themselves. The company is working with CSUF on faculty training, consistent installation and configuration across campus locations and ongoing technology planning. This approach is intended to support adoption while giving the university a more repeatable foundation for future upgrades and deployments.

The result is a campus display strategy built around access and flexibility. Students and faculty have clearer ways to present and explore information, departments can use the same infrastructure for a range of academic activities and the university has a scalable platform that can evolve alongside its instructional and research needs.

As CSUF Associate Vice President Willie Peng explained in the case study, the project is ultimately not about installing “a cool screen.” It is about the educational challenge the technology solves and how the investment supports student-centered innovation.
