Universal has brought its iconic horror franchise to Las Vegas with an attraction unlike any other, and Entertainment Project Services (EPS) built the unseen foundation that makes the experience possible. EPS designed and engineered a venue-wide pipe grid system supporting lighting, sound, and scenic effects across every maze and attraction inside the new Universal Horror Unleashed Las Vegas venue.

Unlike a traditional haunted house, which relies on a single maze, the attraction features multiple distinct haunted environments under one roof. Each space includes its own layout, effects, and design, requiring a continuous structural framework that could meet the creative and technical needs of each team. EPS delivered that backbone with a system covering the entire venue—7,892 feet of pipe, 701 sections, and hundreds of custom connection points.

The engineering challenge went beyond scale. The grid had to disappear into the darkness while remaining structurally strong enough to support heavy production loads. “Any visible hardware risked breaking the illusion, so the system had to feel as if it was never there at all,” the company explained.

EPS’s solution integrated seamlessly into the attraction’s architecture, enabling rigging for lighting, atmospheric machines, audio systems, and scenic elements without intruding on the guest experience. Behind the scenes, the company’s fabrication team assembled 952 intersection brackets, 285 hanging lines and turnbuckles, and nearly 600 welded standoffs and assemblies — each customized to fit the geometry of the mazes and themed areas.

The result is an invisible network supporting the venue’s complex design, giving Universal’s creative team full flexibility while maintaining complete immersion for visitors. The grid also extends across the venue’s exterior areas, including the themed bar and surrounding cityscape, ensuring that every effect is precisely positioned and supported.

Audiences encounter a fully immersive environment where effects emerge from every direction, without distraction or dead space. For Universal Horror Unleashed Las Vegas, the pipe grid functions as the unseen stagehand that makes the magic possible.

EPS calls the project one of the largest and most ambitious venue-wide rigging systems it has ever completed, demonstrating the company’s capability to deliver large-scale infrastructure for themed entertainment at the highest level.
