Samsung Launches Samsung Onyx at Trilith Cinemas

Samsung Electronics America today announced the company’s partnership with the Georgia Theater Company and its channel partner, GDC Technology America. The partnership makes Trilith Cinemas the first U.S. theater to feature the Samsung Onyx cinema LED screen
“At Georgia Theatre Company, we believe the future of moviegoing will be defined by premium experiences that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else,” said Bo Chambliss, President of Georgia Theatre Company. “Bringing the latest Samsung Onyx cinema LED technology to GTC Trilith Cinemas allows us to present films with remarkable image performance and scale while honoring the filmmaker’s intent. Located at the center of one of the most important production communities in the country, GTC Trilith Cinemas at Trilith Live is a natural home for this next generation of cinema, connecting the creative process to the audience and giving our community a world class place to gather and share in an unmatched communal moviegoing experience.”
The Samsung Onyx serves as the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED display. Samsung said that the solution aims to provide high-quality imaging with true black levels, infinite contrast ratio and vibrant color. Five auditoriums at Trilith Cinemas showcase Samsung Onyx screens, ranging from 16-foot and 21-foot displays and a 46-foot screen for large-scale presentations.
The solution allows High Dynamic Range picture technology and frame rates up to 4K 96Hz² in an effort to provide smooth motion and realistic imagery. Images are generated directly from the LED screen.
“Cinema has always been about shared moments and the power of visual storytelling,” said Jonathan del Rosario, Head of Product, Display Solutions, Samsung Electronics America. “Guests at GTC Trilith Cinemas are among the first in the United States to experience the latest Samsung Onyx cinema LED technology, where every frame is presented with exceptional depth and clarity. Together with Georgia Theatre Company, we are helping audiences experience the magic of movies in a way that reflects the filmmakers’ creative vision.”
