ADI announced that its Control4 platform was utilized for a smart home project on a 5,200-square-foot residence in Newport Coast, California. The project was designed and installed by technology integration specialists Daisy Orange County.

The company said that the original goal of the project was to upgrade the residence home’s theater, but Daisy Orange County identifi4ed an opportunity to modernize the property’s infrastructure. The integrator worked alongside Wyss Construction, replacing outdated automation, lighting and audio components with a smart home platform built around Control4.

“The client came to us with a very specific idea of what they wanted to create, a home theater,” said Steve Stary, General Manager and Co-founder of Daisy Orange County. “But as they worked through the discovery process with our design team, they developed a much broader understanding of how their entire home’s environment could be enhanced through properly curated technology. That’s where our process really shows its value. We’re not selling products, we’re helping clients see what’s possible. By the end of those early conversations, the goal had evolved from a single room into a fully integrated environment where lighting, entertainment, comfort and security all work together seamlessly; sophisticated in what it delivers, effortless in how the family experiences it.”

ADI said that Daisy Orange County created a flexible entertainment space in the home using the Control4 automation platform, allowing for a dual-purpose environment that can switch between a cinema experience and relaxed space for everyday viewing. One command from Control4 Halo remote or T4 touchscreen retracts a 150-inch Screen Innovations projection screen into the ceiling, revealing an 85-inch Samsung Frame television mounted behind it. Motorized Lutron Triathlon shades rise and allow to room to transition from a dark theater to an everyday media space.

The company said that a Control4 CORE3 Entertainment and Automation Controller orchestrate the sequence and a high-performance audio system featuring Focal in-wall speakers, JL Audio subwoofers and Triad amplification deliver immersive surround sound. The transformation was completed in ten days.

The homeowners chose to extend the technology upgrade throughout the rest of the residence, resulting in the replacement of lighting keypads with Control4 dimmers and keypads as part of a fully integrated Control4 lighting system. Whole-home audio was introduced using Sonance Invisible Series speakers, aiming to allow music to be distributed throughout the residence without visible hardware.

ADI said that Additional entertainment and security technologies were also integrated throughout the property. Alongside the 85-inch Samsung The Frame display in the media room, another Samsung The Frame television was installed in the family room, creating a second flexible entertainment space. Outdoor living areas were also enhanced with Episode ES-500 outdoor speakers as well as a Control4 DS2 video door station, Yale smart locks and a Qolsys alarm system.

Supporting infrastructure includes WattBox IP power management and a Ubiquiti Wi-Fi network to ensure reliable connectivity throughout the home. The Control4 platform allows for Daisy Orange County to provide ongoing support via remote monitoring and software updates.
