Airzone Control has received OpenADR certification for its Aidoo Pro device, enabling broader demand response integration for Inverter HVAC systems across North America.

The certification supports compliance with the Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) standard, a widely adopted international protocol that allows utilities and consumers to coordinate energy use in real time. With Aidoo Pro, Inverter HVAC units — including mini-splits, heat pumps and variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems — can now participate in utility-managed demand response programs.

As HVAC electrification increases, demand response has become a key strategy to stabilize grids and reduce peak energy loads. In summer months, HVAC can account for more than half of electricity demand, climbing to as much as 70% during peak periods. During demand response events, utilities send signals to compatible systems to throttle usage and prevent grid overload. Aidoo Pro receives these signals and automatically adjusts setpoints and fan speeds to reduce power draw.

The system works with Inverter HVAC equipment from major manufacturers and integrates via standard LAN infrastructure. Aidoo Pro also connects to smart thermostats, home automation platforms and building management systems (BMS) to help maintain comfort while meeting DR targets.

The technology supports program compliance in regions where HVAC demand response is either required or incentivized, including California, Texas, New York, the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. By acting as a universal translator between proprietary HVAC protocols and OpenADR, Aidoo Pro offers flexibility and control for both commercial and residential installations.

Incentive-based programs often rely on automatic controls to maintain user participation. When occupants feel uncomfortable during a DR event, they may override settings or opt out entirely. Airzone says Aidoo Pro helps mitigate this by enabling pre-cooling strategies and smart automation that maintain comfort and alignment with DR program goals.
