Genelec Expands “The Main Ones” Series With New 8380A Main Monitor
Genelec has released the 8380A three-way midfield SAM main monitor, designed to deliver high SPL performance, precise imaging and neutral sound reproduction for professional recording, mixing and mastering studios as well as premium home audio spaces.
The 8380A joins its larger sibling, the 8381A, in Genelec’s “The Main Ones” family. It features a 15-inch woofer and the company’s patented Minimum Diffraction Coaxial midrange-tweeter technology, providing wide dynamics, low self-noise and fatigue-free listening even during long sessions.
Two forward-facing reflex ports support clean low-frequency playback at high levels and allow traditional soffit mounting. Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide houses the coaxial driver, ensuring consistent performance on and off axis. The system also offers low latency and phase alignment with other models in the 8300 Series, The Ones and The Main Ones monitors.
The integrated RAM-L2 amplifier module powers the system with 500 W and 250 W Class D stages for the woofer and midrange, and a 200 W Class AB stage for the tweeter. The 8380A consumes minimal idle power and includes Genelec’s ISS energy-saving technology. Specifications include a frequency response of 29 Hz to 43 kHz, a maximum short-term SPL of 122 dB and a self-generated noise level of 0 dB SPL.
As part of Genelec’s SAM family, the 8380A integrates with GLM software for configuration, calibration and room optimization. The GLM system includes the GRADE room report feature, which provides detailed acoustic analysis and recommendations on treatment, positioning and bass management.
Siamäk Naghian, Genelec managing director, said the 8380A responds to demand from mid-sized music, film and post-production rooms.
“With the 8381A five-way monitor, we saw the potential for a more compact three-way design that brings our coaxial technology to a flush-mounting format,” Naghian said. “The 8380A fills that gap and delivers next-generation midfield performance to professionals and home audio enthusiasts.”
The 8380A debuted online and will appear at upcoming events including Beatcon and Tonmeistertagung in Germany, with more global showcases planned through 2025.
