Samsung Launches Eco-Conscious 13″ Color E-Paper Solution

Samsung

Samsung officially launched its 13-inch Color E-Paper in the United States. The E-Paper is the world’s first digital display designed with a bio-resin housing made from phytoplankton. Samsung said that the display was created for deployment in retail, restaurant, hospitality and workplace environments.

The Color E-Paper utilizes digital ink technology alongside ultra-low-power operation for a paper-like look and feel. Samsung said that the display aims to eliminate the need for reprinting and redistribution of materials for each new promotion or graphic.

The new 13-inch model aims to build on the 32-inch E-Paper solution previously developed by Samsung. The company believes that the new model will expand usability of the solution and allow organizations to apply it to a wide array of environments. The solution can also refresh instantly when updating displays.

The 13-inch display solution maintains static images at zero watts and only needs energy for content updates. The display’s housing is independently verified by global safety and sustainability certification organization UL to be made from 45% recycled plastic and 10% phytoplankton-based-bio-resin. This composition reduces carbon emissions in manufacturing by over 40%.

Samsung also said that the packaging for the product was made in an eco-conscious effort. The boxes are made from 100% paper.

Updates and management of the display are supported through the Samsung E-Paper App for mobile devices. The solution is compatible with Samsung’s cloud-based content and device management platform, Visual experience Transformation (VXT). Teams can remotely manage hardware settings, troubleshoot and deploy content through the platform.

“Modern businesses need signage that keeps pace with rapidly changing operations,” said Jonathan del Rosario, Head of Product, Display Solutions, Samsung Electronics America. “With the new 13-inch addition to our Color E-Paper lineup, Samsung is delivering a compact, ultra-low power display that’s easy to install in high-visibility areas. Organizations can keep customers and employees updated with the latest information without the added cost and effort of constantly reprinting materials.”
