Kwikset and ButterflyMX Announce Integration of UNITE Electronic Locks With Access and Security Platform
Kwikset has announced an integration with ButterflyMX, connecting Kwikset’s UNITE electronic locks with the ButterflyMX platform.
The solution pairs Kwikset UNITE Bluetooth and RFID-enabled electronic locks with the ButterflyMX access control and security platform. It is designed to enable a keyless experience across multifamily properties while simplifying infrastructure requirements.
“UNITE was developed to address the evolving needs of multifamily property managers and residents,” said David Fernandez, product lead of multifamily EAC at Kwikset. “By integrating with ButterflyMX, we are delivering a property-wide access experience that simplifies operations, reduces infrastructure requirements and enhances convenience for residents.”
The companies said the integration aims to allow residents to unlock their unit doors and access property entry points directly from the ButterflyMX mobile app. Residents can access apartment doors, building entrances and gates using the app via Bluetooth, as well as with smart fobs and access cards. By consolidating building and unit access into one platform, the solution eliminates the need for multiple apps.
Property managers can manage access to Kwikset UNITE locks directly within the ButterflyMX operating system. No additional software platforms, Wi-Fi infrastructure or third-party hubs are required.
According to Kwikset and ButterflyMX, the platform aims to simplify installation, onboarding, credential updates and resident turnover, as well as reduce long-term maintenance costs.
Kwikset said its UNITE locks use built-in Bluetooth and RFID credential readers to allow for secure offline access without Wi-Fi connectivity.
“Residents and property managers expect a seamless access experience that works across every door on a property,” said Emily Kubec, product lead for platform and smart locks at ButterflyMX. “Integrating Kwikset UNITE locks into the ButterflyMX platform means residents get one app for everything, from the front gate to their unit door, and property teams get a single system to manage it all, with no added complexity.”
The integration is designed for Class A high-rise urban communities, Class B garden-style suburban properties, student housing and mixed-use developments seeking streamlined, scalable access control solutions.
