Audio-Technica Launches BP880R Contact Transducer

Audio-Technica launched the BP880R Contact Transducer, a specialized microphone with waterproof performance consistent with IPX7 standards. The solution is designed to capture impact and surface vibrations that can add a new dimension to sports broadcasts, film productions, field recording, theater and other professional audio applications.
The company said that BP880R aims to address capturing sounds that help the audience experience the physical impact of the action, not just visually. The BP880R utilizes a high-sensitivity piezoelectric sensor to detect vibrations traveling through surfaces and structures and convert them into audio. The solution has little sensitivity to airborne sound waves, enabling it to isolate the sounds and minimize surrounding ambient noise.
The BP880R is also suitable for spaces outside of sports. Filmmakers and sound designers can use it to capture location effects, and theater and live production professionals can install the transducer in stages, flooring, and scenery to capture sonic details. The solution is engineered for high impact applications with a ezincification-resistant brass body with a protective coating designed to resist corrosion from chlorinated water. It can be submerged in water or ice, buried underground, installed in flooring or attached to foul poles and other structures or objects within the field of play.
